A Legal Resource Guide for Alberta
You need to know:

When you get a ticket you don’t get all the information.

· Your copy has that big pre-printed spot that gives you information about the ticket and how to pay it.  The officer’s copy is blank and he must make notes there or refer to notes he has made elsewhere.  You are entitled to access to those notes by requesting them, invoking “FOIP” (the freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act), through that department of EPS or the RCMP.  You need those notes if you are going to court because that is the evidence the officer will be relying on to convict you.  Lawyers know this and will ask for the information.  So must you.
